Stretching while muscles are cold may result in injury!

Improper stretching before your activity can actually increase your chances of getting injured and may decrease your workout performance.

Think about your muscles and tendons like sponges. What happens if you stretch a dry sponge? It will crack. But if you moisten that sponge first, it will move and stretch freely.

Well, when you warm up your muscles and tendons, they become flushed with blood, making them looser and more supple.

So remember... warm up first, then stretch.

The warm up should consist of a light physical activity, taking about five to ten minutes, resulting in a light sweat.

Examples would be jogging in place, moderately energetic walking, riding a stationary bicycle, or doing less-vigorous rehearsals of the sport or exercise you're about to perform.
